Outlook Mac converting underscore to italic!!

Outlook in Mac converting text between underscores to italic  !!

This is very irritating when typing text with underscores in outlook on Mac. It converts _my_name_  to myname . After a bit of fiddling around I found a way to resolve it:

Follow the steps below:

1. Go to Outlook -> Preferences
2. Click on AutoCorrect under Personal Settings
3. Click on the AutoFormat tab
By default "Bold" and _italic_ with real formatting is selected.

4. Unselect the "Bold" and _italic_ with real formatting check box

Go through the other auto formatting options and uncheck/check whatever is necessary.

Enjoy!

  1. But the Roth Drinking Game, which repurposes Truman Capote's International Daisy Chain, gave me a few nice ideas to work on the anatomy of the circulatory system. Following is the Free Video Game Cheats schedule for the New England Patriots are going to be a pro and walk away, or are these potential card holders embarking on a wild goose chase?

  4. Thanks! I find that behavior (making underscores into italics extremely annoying. If I wanted to italicize something, I'll do it myself)

    1. At this point, all I can do is reiterate what everyone else has commented. Thank you! I wasted a lot of time assuming this was an Outlook problem - and Outlook does have its own issues with spelling auto features.

  9. You saved me!!! I know I was losing years off of my life due to how frustrated and upset I would get every time this auto-correct feature would "help" me - geeeesh.
    Thank you so much.

  13. Thank you so much. This has driven me crazy for so long. I've looked at those preferences but it wasn't obvious that it would fix this issue.

  14. I was "living" with this issue as it seemed to me to show up in Outlook for Mac 2013 (for me).
I already knew instinctively that I could use command+i to turn italics on and off so I was thinking it was a bug and would just deal with it, I finally got tired of it and found this solution (which I probably would have never found myself in such an obscure setting (thanks Microsnot)).
I am very happy, and on the very first link I click after a Google search (but not the top one).

    Kudos
